The skiing wonders didn’t have to learn skiing that way

Local skiers were soon amongst the best skiers of the world. This is not surprising: grown up with skis on their feet, the best training areas at their doorstep, and thanks to the growing number of winter tourists they could earn their money as skiing instructors and thus pursue their favorite sport.

When the first Hahnenkamm race took place on 18 and 19 January 1931, it was not surprising that locals took the first five places. In the 50ies it was the Kitzbühel Ski Dream Team that was the measure of all things: at the time of Christian Pravda, Ernst Hinterseer, Hias Leitner, Fritz Huber, Anderl Molterer and Toni Sailer there is hardly a photo of winners without one or more of these skiing legends of the world-famous Kitzbühel Ski Club.
